Spotlight on The Sofa & Chair Company and My Top Picks to Reflect Trends in 2019

This week, the Sofa & Chair Company, the leading luxury interiors destination in the UK, launch their newly renovated showroom in London. Already the largest luxury showroom in the UK with over 100 room sets, the expansion will see another 30 coming in the refurbishment; a total of over 130 room sets including a show home for luxury real estate developers and the UK’s largest fabric library. The dedicated space for fabric will house their increasing range featuring collections from Romo, Dedar, Designers Guild, Rubelli and Zimmer + Rohde.

The showroom will house over 400 different brands from across the globe to complement the Sofa and Chair range, including a new partnership with asTbridge and recent additions, Eichholtz and Caracole and they will be constantly updating their collection and adding new product and ranges: Smania, Georgio, Reflex and Visionnaire to name few. They will also be releasing design collaborations with some of their favourite interior designers and support the design industry offering CPD training through BIID

The Sofa & Chair Company product is of the highest quality with incredible craftsmanship and superior service, offering bespoke, tailor-made and made-to-order. They also have the fastest lead times of any furniture manufacturer with made-to-order pieces ready to deliver in just 4 weeks. It is possible to visit their West London workshop to see your piece being made by their upholsterers, located near to the showroom.

Their collection includes furniture, lighting, textiles and rugs and accessories and they also have a bespoke luxury curtain service; Larkbury Curtains, and can work directly with customers on the designs for their home or recommend interior designers they frequently work with.

The Sofa & Chair Company’s showroom is filled with all manner of fantastic furniture and accessories. Below, I have chosen some of their bestsellers and new product lines to showcase how you might bring some of the Interior Trends of 2019 into your home.

Top Product Picks

The Provence Bed (main image at the top of this post) is a product pick for me as it has a beautiful fluted, headboard that wraps itself around the bed and even surrounding bedside tables, creating a cocoon in the bedroom. We are seeing a lot of wrapped, padded and comfortable headboards coming onto the interior market this year, as we move to “Luxe” headboards, bringing sophistication and a sanctuary-like feel to the bedroom.

According to Elle Decor “"Beds are going to be more womb-like. There are so many things going on in the world, and we desire to feel nurtured and protected when we are sleeping and/or relaxing. Lots of upholstered headboards and footboards will be sheathed in comfortable textiles that feel like a warm hug."

This one is already a best seller for The Sofa & Chair company and comes in a large range of sizes, whether you have a small bedroom or a vast master suite, there is a size for you.

With 1000s of fabrics to choose from you can create this in any colour or any material to match your decor. Personally, I would likely go for velvet, since I think this interior trend is around for a while longer and the sumptuousness of the material would be ideal to lie your head on.

The Reed Chair is a new addition to the Sofa & Chair company which I have chosen due to its mid-century aesthetic which I think is a classic style that will always be popular with homeowners no matter what trends come and go.

While the trend of mid-century modern has been losing steam over the last few years, mid-century Italian is growing according to My Domain and within this trend are bolder colours which this image of the Reid Chair shows perfectly.

So, whether you believe mid century will always have a home, or ascribe to the bolder Italian Modern trend, this chair would fit perfectly in your home.

I have a thing about accent chairs and this beautiful new addition to the Sofa & Chair Company range, The Swift Chair, ticks a lot of boxes for me. Curved furniture is a big trend this year, which is arguably why I have also chosen the Circa Sofa below. Soft and fluid silhouettes that project a feminine aesthetic are a hallmark of 2019 and offer a reprieve from sleek, modern lines or recent years. In many ways on Ode to the 1970s, we are seeing rounded, often voluptuous shapes in almost every piece of furniture, from consoles, to coffee tables to chairs and sofas.

The accent chair is a great way to bring a touch of this trend into your home, and the curved back adds a layer of comfort. Moreover, in this colour, you are likely to be bang on trend for Autumn. According to Apartmenttherapy, the popular hues of yesterday year: millennial pink and ultraviolet, are on their way out, and burnt orange is about to be everywhere in interiors from walls to furniture.

If you want to take this trend to the next level then the Circa Sofa would be a great choice, a real statement piece of furniture that is great for large gatherings.

The Art Deco Influence is expected to become more prominent in 2019 according to Elle Decor’s furniture trend guide. Art deco is glamorous and vintage in equal doses and during its heyday, represented luxury, glamour, and exuberance. Today, it represents a combination of modern styles with fine craftsmanship and quality materials and hence the reason for choosing the Moore Sofa, above.

So, why not pop along to the newly opened Sofa & Chair showroom and have a browse at an extensive range of furniture and accessories, alongside a vast array of fabrics and know that if you find something, it could be in your home in as little as 4 weeks.

Background to the Brand

The Sofa & Chair Company was founded in 2002. As an upholster and furniture maker, the founder possessed both an eye for detail and a vast experience in the design and luxury sector, being able to identify the unique pressures that London’s interior design community faced at the time. Namely, the lack of brands able to fulfil quality, design-led pieces on a short lead-time.

They recognised that London’s interior design community needed a local manufacturer – one that understood the needs and tastes of Londoners and that could deliver a broad range of designs at pace. Key to this was a need to alleviate pressure during the specification process and ensure a swift and prompt delivery for customers.

The Sofa & Chair Company launched above their workshop in London before opening the flagship studio in Park Royal. Combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative manufacturing processes, the business has since grown into a thriving company renowned for aspirational British design and quality production.
