Jellina Detmar's Dutch Farm Renovation
Hello, I’m Jellina Detmar, and in my day job I am a physiotherapist, but I blog and do Instagram as a hobby. We have two children Melin is 2 years old and Déjan is 5 years old and my family is the most important thing in my life. We have renovated our farmhouse in Kollum, Netherlands, where we do most of the renovation work ourselves, with many DIY projects now completed such as the kitchen, making our table, our doors, for example.
I also have a website, where I blog entirely about our renovation and how an old monumental farm is being rebuilt into a fully renovated modern farm. My blog is like a diary for me. Everything I write is to inspire other people.
The styling, decoration and renovation work, has been done by my husband and I, together, for a very long time. Before this farm, we had another old house completely rebuilt and now we have taken on a new challenge, our current farmhouse. I started my Instagram account in August 2016 and I like it that people recognize my account by my own style. I love plants; the urban jungle look, industrial, steel and “tough” elements in our house. We use warm dark shades but also use light white shades and we also love flea market or recycled items, second-hand items; old materials we reuse again.
Our house has been on Dutch television and we have been in the newspapers and in home magazines in the Netherlands and abroad. I am very proud of this! My Instagram has 156.000 followers who also see my house and renovation, and I feel so blessed that they follow me.
It is really a great honour that they want to watch, and that every time and day they give a like and reaction.
And my Interior advice? Do what you like for yourself. Choose your own style that makes you feel comfortable. You can get inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest but you can give it your own twist. Turn your home into a home.
